From North East India's famous Tea growing region of Assam
Explore the strong, rich taste of Assam black tea in tea bags and loose-leaf cartons and caddies from Newby of London teas.
The tea plant is native to the tropical climates of Assam, and currently it's the world’s largest tea growing region.
Assam’s tea plants are grown in lowlands and at near sea level where the weather is usually cool or hot and humid, ideal for growing tea. During the monsoon period in Assam there will be up to 300mm of rain a day in 40 °C heat, creating the perfect natural green house effect to help nurture the tea plants. These harsh climactic conditions produce rich, powerful teas, with their distinctive liquor.
Golden tips, a rich amber colour, fragrance of molasses, malt aftertaste, this Indian tea from Assam is brisk with good astringency. This makes an excellent beverage that compliments breakfast and can be drunk after dinner instead of coffee, and can be taken with milk and sugar.
